What is a double block & bleed valve?

A double block and bleed valve (DBB) integrates two block valves and a single bleed valve into one compact body. The two block valves isolate the process line from both upstream and downstream pressure, while the central bleed valve vents the cavity between them — giving operators a verifiable, zero-leak isolation point.

Replacing three discrete valves with a single DBB body cuts weight by up to 60%, reduces leak paths from twelve to four, and simplifies hook-up for instrument lines, pressure transmitters, gauges, sample points and chemical injection systems.

ICCL manufactures DBB valves at our Jubail facility for the Kingdom's oil & gas, refining, petrochemical and power generation sectors — and ships across the GCC with ex-stock availability on standard configurations.

What is the full form of DBB? +
DBB stands for Double Block and Bleed. The valve uses two independent block (isolation) seats with a bleed port between them, providing positive isolation that can be verified by venting the cavity.
What is the purpose of a double block & bleed valve? +
DBB valves provide positive, verifiable isolation of process media for safe maintenance, instrument calibration, sampling and start-up/shutdown. By bleeding the cavity between the two blocks, operators confirm zero pressure before opening downstream equipment — preventing accidental release of hazardous fluids.
Where are DBB valves used? +
Most commonly on instrument hook-ups (pressure gauges, transmitters, level instruments), chemical injection lines, sampling systems, custody transfer skids and any application requiring positive isolation in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, power and water industries.
What's the difference between DBB and a 3-valve manifold? +
A traditional 3-valve manifold uses three discrete valves with twelve potential leak paths and roughly twice the weight. A DBB integrates the same function into one body with four leak paths and a single mounting point — saving weight, reducing fugitive emissions and simplifying installation and inspection.
Are ICCL DBB valves NACE compliant? +
Yes. All ICCL DBB valves are available in NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliant materials for sour-service applications, with material certificates supplied as standard.
Do you supply Aramco-approved DBB valves? +
ICCL is on the Saudi Aramco Approved Vendor List for instrumentation valves. We supply per 09-SAMSS standards and provide all required documentation for Aramco projects.
